WHAT A SUCCESS!! The town of Big Sky welcomed SCS Unlimited, Keith Sayers and Derek Burlew with open arms and loud screams. The people at Choppers are such a joy to work with. The event was scheduled to begin around 5:30pm on Thursday, July 1 but mother natures wind would not let up and it definitely took some time to settle. Around 7pm the riders said the hell with the wind…..lets do this. The patient fans at Big Sky were awesome for sticking it out as long as they did. However, once the two stroke bikes started the town center went nuts! Kids, adults and tourists were blown away by how great Keith and Derek rode. The weather held long enough for the guys to throw down for a solid hour. Keith threw some smooth back flips and Derek solidified his reputation as a very smooth, technical rider.

SCS stoked the crowd out with plenty of T-shirt and sticker giveaways. The kids loved the excitement that we brought to Big Sky and we want to thank Choppers for their continued support for wanting to work with us each year. We are already looking forward to the 4th Annual show. Thank you to all of the fans that made it out as well, your support is truly appreciated and we hope to see everyone there next year.

One of the things that makes motocross and freestyle motocross so cool is how dope the bikes are. I remember being a kid and seeing a Kawasaki KX80 for the first time and thinking it was the raddest thing I’ve ever laid eyes on — the neon green made it look like a bike that the Ninja Turtles would ride. Throughout the years, I’ve always been attracted to good looking bikes and in my opinion, the way a bike looks can really determine the way I view a rider and his riding style. I know it sounds shallow, but it’s true. If you have a dope bike that’s clean and stylish, then you’re doper than the goon who has a duct taped, mismatched turd bucket he washes once a month.

So, yesterday we showed off Twitch’s sick new Kawasaki KX450F, and before that we brought you exclusive photos of Vanni Oddera’s sick steed — both the gold version and purple version. Being a fan of sick bikes himself, my good buddy and sick FMX rider Keith Sayers enjoyed the photos, but he hit me up asking if he could show off his notoriously sick bikes as well. Of course I said yes, because ever since I’ve known Keith, his bikes have always made my top three list of the sickest FMX bikes. So, without further ado, check out Sayers’ collection of two Yamaha YZ250’s (one blue, one white) and one YZ450F. Peep.

beaver-mountain-092 The Beaver Mountain hill climb went awesome!  There was a lot of snow and the weather was nice with quite a few spectators on Saturday. Qualifying went well in all my classes on Friday.  Finals were on Saturday and I started out by taking a 1st place in Stock 600. After the win in 600 Stock, I was ready to rip it up. I won Stock 700, Stock 800 and Modified 800.  As for Stock 1000, I ended up falling off the side of the course and getting my bars stuck in my coat!  Stock King of the Hill was quite interesting.  I was first up on my Stock 700.  My run was a 1.11.64.  Next, Tom Roby was up for winning Pro Masters Stock and his run was a 1.12. Les Keller was up next for winning 1000 Stock and he ran a 1.11.08.  My 800 stocker was my next attemp to get stock king…. ran a 1.11.11.  The last attempt was on my 600 stocker and I ended up getting a 1.11.54! You can’t get much closer than that!  After I had ran the course 3 times pretty much back to back I was a little tired but ready for my Mod King run.  I ran against David Sharp, Kyle Tapio, Erin Beukelman, and Carson Ellingford and ended up winning Mod King of the Hill!

This race season ended up turning out great and I was very happy with the end results. I won season points titles in Stock 600, Stock 700, Stock 800, and Modified 800. I finished 2nd overall in 1000 stock… one place higher finishing Saturday would have got me another first. But there’s always next year! I was told at the Awards Ceremony that I had not only finished 1st at every race in 700 Stock class but I had also qualified 1st at every event in this class. This is except for Jackson which is not a RMSHA event. I also won Stock high points of the year and Modified high points of the year.

The 2010 World Championship Snowmobile Hill Climb is in the books.  SCS attended the event in full force to support our talented athletes and to showcase our full scale print capabilities along with our sled wrap line.  The weekend could not have gone any better.  Fans were pumped to see SCS back in the mix of things in the sled world.  This was the first of many events that we will be attending to showcase SCS Unlimited.  Our booth was busy throughout the weekend and our company teaser was on the Jumbo Tron to showcase the epicness that is SCS.

SCS team riders shined all weekend.  Russell Frisby, Heath Frisby’s brother, started out the weekend by winning the dash for cash on a sled that looked to be faster then the time machine in Back to the Future.  That thing was hauling the mail.  On Friday, Keith Curtis shined in qualifying by making it into 3 out of 4 of his respective classes.  Ty Free unfortunately was not competing due to injury.  His sleds, however, were making an impact.  Ty was so generous to lend his brother Shad the equipment for the weekend and Shad took full advantage of them.  Shad qualified in 2 out of 4 classes and ended up winning 1000 Improved Stock.  This led to Shad winning the Improved Stock King of the Hill.  We were at the top when Shad pulled off his King run and he could not have been any happier.  Congratulations to Shad on his hard fought, long time coming victory.

Keith Curtis, who by the way never disappoints, put down an amazing time in 1000 Stock to claim the victory.  Keith has a talent on a sled that is unmatched.  His fluid style and ability to take on whatever is put in front of him make him a formidable threat each and every weekend.  Congratulations Keith on another victory at the World Championships!

SCS Unlimited donated three complete sled wrap kits to the Kings of the Hill.  Congratulations to the 2010 Stock King – Luke Rainey, 2010 Improved Stock King – Shad Free and 2010 Modified King – Russ Tapio.  Russ had some amazing runs and kept the Tapio name on top at Jackson for another year.

Hello everyone,

The Lost Trail race was very exciting with a fun course that had a little bit of everything including jumps, a rhythm section and fun hill to compete on. The results were phenomenal! The day couldn’t have started any better with a win in 600 stock after scoping out a new line on the hill. After my 600 stock run I had my lines picked out for my 700 stock, 800 stock and 800 modified runs resulting in wins for the stock 700 & 800 classes as well as a win for my mod 800 class. After watching other racers run up the course I changed my line just a little bit for the 1000 stock run pulling off another 1st! After my classes were over king runs came my main concern. My first run up for the Stock King run felt great until a blew a corner which cost me a few seconds. I waited at the top until Tom Roby went through the timing lights. He ended up beating my time by roughly 4 tenths of a second. My second run for Stock King felt very smooth and resulted with a run that was 3 seconds faster than my first attempt and a my first Stock King title this year! My Mod King of the Hill also went great resulting in a Mod King Title and a double crown! First time I’ve ever won a Mod King or a double crown so I am stoked about the weekend! Erin Beulkelman, Cole Willford, Dennis Durmas, and Tyler Crockett also had some wins for the Polaris Team so overall Polaris had a great weekend!

Heath, this is a new thing going on over in France with the ESPN Winter X Games – Europe, can you tell us a little bit more about it?

Going over to France for X Games was fun. It was a chance to go over and ride and showcase our event for a chance to be a competition for X Games- Europe next year.

Are the odds of getting snowmobiles to be a medal discipline over there good?

Odds are good.  We had huge crowds and the event as a whole was a success.

Now that time has past from ESPN Winter X Games in Aspen how does it feel to finally have that Gold Medal around your neck?

I feel lighter.  I have worked very hard for years and so have a lot of people that have helped me out so it was a great day for all of us.

How did you feel going into Best Trick after what had happened in Freestyle?

I felt fine.  I knew that I would do good.  I was ready for that event and I worked on my tricks for Best Trick all season so I knew that I could go out and do them.

What was going through your head after you found yourself in the Bronze medal position with 1 run to go?

I was bummed that I didn’t learn my trick over the big ramp and was really thinking that I was going to be stuck with another bronze medal.

How did you feel after you landed the Gold Medal Trick?  Did you know you had Gold after you landed it?

No, I thought that I was going for another bronze. I was hoping to at least bump up to second.

Can you tell us about this new tour you are on and what it is all about, sounds very exciting?

I am very excited about being on the Gravity Slashers Tour.  It is a competition for freestyle motocross guys and I go out and show people that a snowmobile can back flip and that we can do cool tricks.

After you get back from France, what do you have lined up for the Spring and Summer months?

I have a few more shows I have to do and then I am going to focus on getting back on my bike and getting dialed for the summer months.

The news dropped today that our good friend Steven Haughelstine’s new moto movie “ELEMENTS” will be available to you all March 10th.  When it comes to having a passion for riding, and exploring the unknown, the name HOG, Steven Haughelstine comes to mind.  All of us at SCS are fired up for this DVD to hit the market worldwide!  A few months back, Haughelstine asked SCS to design the cover for the movie, which we accepted and were honored to do so.  Josh and Devin from SCS took this project on with pride and we all are excited with the outcome.

If you are a fan of riding a dirt bike, you will be sure to enjoy this freeriding adventure.   We are proud to be involved with a grass roots film that speaks to anyone that loves to ride a dirt bike.  A unique glimpse into the world we love so much.   SCS athletes Keith Sayers and Heath Frisby have amazing parts in this great film and our very own Devin Karr of SCS was fortunate enough to be involved with some of the epic riding trips that took place over the past year in Montana!   As for the great state of Montana, it will be proudly represented in this film, with rides all over the state.  Montana and tourism go hand and hand.
